Ficlet - Kill Them With Kindness [Incepted Verse]

Verse: Yeah, you guessed it, Incepted-verse. Post this.
Warning: Yeah, I don't promise anything about tenses right now but eventually I'll come back and fix glaring errors because they bother me too.

While Piper knew she didn't owe anything to Amelia McHenry and her family coven, or the coven she's found herself in, she knew an opportunity when she saw it. And she was not above taking any opportunity she saw if it furthered her mission.

That, and the girl had raised a few good points. One that she was still thinking on, namely how they can better benefit New Orleans as a whole. Eventually it was something she'd bring up with Kol as well in a more serious manner.

If she was staying, of course.

Because that was the biggest question of all, wasn't it? Was she planning on staying?

Without Fabienne with her this time, Piper walks to the entrance of the bakery and cafe Amelia and her family worked and ran in the Magazine district and takes a minute to looks around. It was a nice area, close to the Garden district and well maintained. They didn't stay long enough yesterday to take it all in, but she had the opportunity this time.

It was cute.

In her former life, she could see herself setting up here and writing for hours on end. It was a place Jordan, Mercedes, Madison and she would have hung out at for hours.

Thankfully, the morning had slowed down a little so by the time she walked through the doors, they weren't overwhelmed.

"You're back," said one of the women she'd met yesterday, who had been friendlier than Amelia. "Welcome back."

Piper smiles. "Thank you, I wondered if I could borrow Amelia for a moment," she asks, glancing at the girl before looking at the other woman who'd spoken.

"What is this about," Amelia asks with a little frown, surprised to see her again, especially so soon. She'd been spoken to about her attitude after the witch and Priestess had left yesterday and spent much of the evening cleaning.

"I have something that I think you'd be interested in but it might be better to show you in private, if you don't mind."

Amelia glances at the clock before looking at her. "I go on break in five. Grab something to drink and I can meet you in a booth."

Piper nods before going up to the counter and ordering herself the strongest and largest cup of coffee they had available and an order of their special beignets. She took a private corner of the cafe and settled in, the grimoire in her bag. She could feel the energy come off it stronger now that it was in the presence of its descendent and feels a smile curl on her mouth.

Six minutes later, Amelia slides in the booth on the opposite side of her and folds her hands in front of her. "So, what's this about? It's not because of my charming personality."

"No, but it is amusing," Piper says with a laugh. It was like speaking to herself, sometimes. She reaches into her bag and pulls the grimoire out and slides it across the table to Amelia. "Something wanted to be returned to you and who am I to ignore its will."

Piper watches as her face becomes pale as she takes in the book and pulls it to her.

"How... How'd you get this," she asks, her voice thick as she stares at it then at Piper. "Why..."

She takes a sip of her coffee before answering. "You weren't wrong about those people being horrible. I just took back what didn't belong to them. There are a few... well several others that have been taken over the years and when I went back last night, I knew it needed to be returned to you. Your mothers?"

"Grandmother's. My Mom refused to practice and refused her abilities - it didn't do her any favors," Amelia says looking at the front page and the name. She swallows thickly and looks at Piper. "Thank you for bringing back it to me. I thought... I never thought I'd see it again." She pauses, her eyes widening. "If they find out -"

Piper laughs and shakes her head. "Oh, don't worry about them. They've been taken care of for now and won't be bothering you and your family again. You're welcome - it rightly belongs to you. Hold onto it and learn from it. You'll be a formidable witch and one that I'd like to be on the right side with than against, one day."

Amelia nods, unsure what that means but isn't ready to tackle that just now but clutches the book close to her chest, feeling its warmth spread through her. "Thank you. I've got to go but despite me, I hope that you will come back again."

"I will. I am already living for these beignets - not sure you could keep me away now."
