"Well, I haven't had any negative reaction to vampire blood in the past which I suppose is lucky for me in the grand scheme of things," Piper said with a quirk of her mouth.
She nodded. "Before... well, just before in my life, that inherent danger wouldn't have been a great concern." She wasn't sure how much she should share with the attractive vampire doctor but he did come at a moment's notice to help her out. Which was, she knew, his profession but all the same.
Considering the pain she had been feeling, she hardly noticed as he cleaned the wound with practiced ease.
"You should know since you're the doctor, that at one point I was practically immortal. I'm less confident in that theory right now with this," Piper explained motioning to the wound with her free hand. She wasn't about to go into her sob story like this - with her shirt off and a doctor cleaning her stab wound - but she figured it was especially important for him to know why she had been less concerned about the being turned part. Or, more specifically, the dying part.
"You're still mostly human, so guess you've done alright," he says, smiling like it's just a joke but there's a seriousness around his eyes because, for him, it's very serious. He's never turned another, and he has no plans to ever let it happen.
He's cleaning the wound efficiently, but when she mentions that she has been, more or less, immortal, he stops. Dabbing at the wound, but he's watching her as he considers that.
"Not that it's any of my business, but if you could be wounded like this and take the risk of it causing death, then what changed? I mean, I know my type is considered immortal, though we're not but I would have healed something like this. Would you normally have healed this?"
"I have something going for me then," she snorted with a smile. For the moment, she was going to take it lightheartedly but she spotted the tightness around his eyes.
Piper watched him for a long moment before lifting her head to look at anything but him, swallowing a lump in her throat. "Yes, I would have normally have healed this by now. What changed is, my cousin died... was killed. We were part of a prophecy and now with her gone, I'm not sure if that part of the lore is correct. I haven't put myself in direct harm like this in a while."
The words sort of tumbled out both explaining and not explaining at the same time.
"And it's just my luck that the bitch who stabbed me found something, some kind of poison, to dip her knife into." She grit her teeth, annoyed with both herself (for not being prepared for that) and with the witch that one day she would find.
"I don't know. I'm not really human but I'm definitely humane," he admits with a smirk. Probably not what someone wants to hear from their doctor either but he can't help himself.
He falls silent as he holds a piece of gauze to her wound. "Wait, you were immortal until she died? How could she have died? And how did that strip you of your immortality?"
He asks them softly, confused and definitely curious. He just can't help himself.
"I'm going to give you blood, okay? Just promise me you won't die in the next week."
Even as he says it, he gets a scalpel from his case. "Would you prefer from a glass or from the source? I'm fine with either."
Although it wouldn't be too funny to anyone else, Piper found herself laughing despite herself with a groan. While it hurt to laugh currently, she appreciated his sense of humor all the same.
She cleared her throat at the questions. "It's a... story," she admitted after a moment. "There was a prophecy about The Enchanted - the usual tripe about the strongest witches blah-blah-blah. The cherry on top of the sundai was on our 21st birthday's, we'd become immortal. I turned 21 in April and my cousin was killed just before her's. So...," she trailed off and swallowed hard, she was not going to get emotional. "So, since then, I haven't put myself in significant harm's way just in case."
Piper's mouth quirked up a little as she gave him a serious nod. "I promise I will do my best to not get killed within the next week."
At the question, she opened her mouth then closed it again. It had been a long time since... she shook her head. "Either way, I'm not exactly picky," she finally responded after a moment and with a grateful look. "There might be a glass around here, there usually are. From the source is probably simpler."
Not to mention, less lingering proof which was easily taken care of with magic.
"So because she's gone and it involved you both, you aren't sure if it still applies to you," he repeats, considering that as he nods. "I guess it makes sense. When you consider that to test it, you risk dying then I guess it makes sense that you can't really take the chance."
He watches her for a minute. "Since we don't know what your situation is, we can't know what could happen if you were turned either," he points out. "I don't want that to happen to you, or you to find out that way either."
It's just a lot. "So just try and be extra careful."
He nods at her comment, watching her for a moment before he lifts his wrist to his mouth. Biting down, piercing the vein but not ripping up his throat as he knows others do, before holding the towel beneath his arm and offering it to her. "You shouldn't need much."
Piper nodded. "Until I take out every single bastard involved, I can't let myself get killed. I mean, I guess it'd be easier to know one way or the other, so if I do something stupid then I won't worry about dying but...," she paused, considering her words. "Somedays, I can't decide if I'd rather be immortal or not. Which seems ridiculous telling someone who is also immortal."
At this point, she wasn't sure she was ready to confront the long life ahead of her beyond this mission of hers if she was.
Piper listened to him and let her mouth quirk up. "Then we agree. I'd rather not die just yet so I will be extra careful." As far as she was aware, she didn't leave any survivors before she left so no one could have followed her.
"Thank you, again... for coming here and for this," she said, seriously before lifting her hands and bringing his wrist to her mouth.
Drinking blood was something she'd done on a few (rare) occasions (the first time with David and later from Adonis) but it always caught her by surprise how much she didn't mind the taste or the act itself. There was something else to it though that she couldn't put her finger on, something that she could get addicted to if she weren't careful.
Was that even possible? Piper assumed so.
After a few moments, she lifted her mouth from his wrist and breathed. Already she could feel Kyle's blood work through her and push out the poison. "I really need to figure out what that poison was and see if I could use it myself."
"I would say that being immortal is not all it's cracked up to be but truthfully? I've only been one for a little over a year so not as if I've watched loved ones die or had to give up my life to hide I'm not aging," he admits, which is more than he tells many but she's opening up to him and he's willing to do the same for her. Even if it means risking himself because his youthfulness makes him easier to kill.
He watches her as she takes in his blood, noting the ease with which she did it. She's done it before, isn't bothered by it and it makes it more comfortable to him. He's had people react viciously about it and he's glad she isn't one of them.
He's not sure why he feels so comfortable with her to begin with, and realizing he's ready to do whatever he can.
"Well, I have some of your blood," he says, nodding at the gauze and other evidence on the table. "I can try and run it in a lab and see if I can find out what it is," he offers, knowing it's going to be burying himself so much more into her life but he can't stop himself. Not only because of the nature of the man he is, but there's this urge to be there for her.
Which is why he starts reaching into his bag, even as his wrist heals.
"I'm going to give you a few vials of my blood. Please, use it sparingly, only for yourself, and only in dire situations. I have no plans to let my sire's line go on beyond me."
Elijah has died once, and all of his died with him. Now Kyle is the only one left.
She listened to him and was a little surprised when he opened up with her. It wasn't lost on her that he was sharing just how young he was, as a vampire, and it could be used against him. She was not going to take that lightly.
"I would agree, I'm not sure it's all that it's cracked up to be either," she agreed with a smile. "But, if it does turn out that I am, then it's good to know someone else who is at the beginning stages of this... lifestyle. If you can call it that."
Piper felt open with him in ways she hadn't with so many others since the fiasco happened and only hoped that it wouldn't be misplaced.
"If you have time and are able to, I would appreciate that, thank you," Piper said after a moment. It would, not only pull him deeper into her world with its very real danger but would also give him an idea of what could injure her if he was so inclined. She wasn't particularly worried about that last part, though she probably should be all things considered.
When he mentioned giving her vials of his blood, Piper blinked in shock. "Kyle," she said. She didn't anticipate this. "Are... are you sure?"
The pain was fading and she was becoming increasingly more aware of other things around her. "I can promise you, I will only use it for myself in very dire situations," she promised him.
She went quiet for a moment as she considered him. "I may be bringing danger to your doorstep. I'm handy with wards if you need any... something to keep you and your family and friends safe."
As young as he is, he hasn't learned to be careful. Especially not how he started out on the path he is. Being returned to his own world, or some world like his and making a life was one thing. Now though he still had to learn how to protect himself as much as he did others.
He smiles at that. "Most are taught not to be honest about their age. I didn't learn that due to various reasons." And now he was alone, but he's learned enough not to admit that as clearly and openly.
"I became a doctor to help people. Now I'm in a very unique position to help people who usually don't have anyone to turn. Of course I'll give it a try and see what I can find out. I never promise anything, but I'll do my best," he offers with a smile. "Besides, it's nice to maybe have someone who isn't pretending to be a Victorian vampire... or you know, actually is one. I swear they're the only ones that never grew out of their time period.
He reaches into his bag to pull out a slim leather case that he hands out to her. "Of course I'm sure. Just don't die with it in your system, okay? You can already tell that if you were turned, I don't have the education to help you like I should," he points out with a grin.
The smile tightens but doesn't fade.
"I'd appreciate that. It's mostly just me these days but I do see others here." Aliens and vampires and now immortals, oh my.
"At least you seem to have a better handle on it than most who are your age so that's a major step up," Piper remarked. She felt the skin from where the knife had cut heal as well as the various scrapes and bruises from the fight. It was remarkable what vampire blood could do - both good and bad.
She nodded understandingly. "Whatever you can find out, even if you don't find anything out... it's more than what I have now. Just promise me you'll burn whatever is left of my blood. I don't want others with sensitive noses to pick up on it and come after you in response." Especially when he was only trying to help and wasn't asking to be thrown into this pseudo battle.
Piper took the case with both hands and clasped it close. "Promise I won't. I don't plan on dying any time soon." While forever may not be in the cards, she would be damned if she didn't fight with every ounce of her being until it was all said and done. What came after that, she didn't know and it was the very last thing on her mind.
She nodded and gave him a grateful smile. "Tomorrow, once I've regained some of my strength, I'd be happy to swing by... wherever you'd like to place some wards on your practice or your home. It won't take long."
"Thanks. I appreciate that. I had a crash course in madness and coping with things and I think it's set me up well." He's learned a lot in that other world, even if he suspects even those that know about their life won't believe him with what he's been through.
"I promise. Everything from today and that will be destroyed. And I have places to keep it until then that are away from others. Because of my secondary doctor's clinic, I have a space I use just for this. I'll do my best to keep you and the samples safe."
And he means it. Whatever he can do for others. It's always been how he's worked.
"I just don't want you taking chances with things like today and if you hadn't gotten my help. Now if there's a bullet or anything, consider if it's desperate. I'd hate to have to cut you back open to get a bullet out."
He smiles at that, drawing out a small note pad and writing an address on it. "This is my place, and then we'll go to where I do research for my outside of humans work. If you're okay with that."
"Can't imagine that'd be easy but at least that'll help. This world seems to just get crazier by the day and that's only the normal world. The supernatural world is worse." But perhaps that was her side of things and the fight she was taking against those who wronged her.
Piper nodded. "I appreciate that, thank you." She had no reason to think he'd lie to her. Especially not after he'd come to some hotel room, patched up a complete stranger, and given her some of his blood.
"I can't make promises for not taking chances. Plenty of vampires and a couple of demons are inconsiderate. They don't feel like scheduling our fights with two weeks' notice," she mused with a teasing smile. "Though, the poisoned knife, I will be watching out for more closely."
She smiled. "Absolutely. For everything you've done for me tonight, I'm happy to ward both places." She felt loads better already and while she knew most of it was the vampire blood, she felt part of it could be blamed on maybe having an answer very soon about her.
It was only starting to dawn on her that the first vampire doctor she's ever met was also extremely handsome. Now was certainly not the time.
It's not funny and yet, at the same time, he can't help but laugh. "That's the thing. We're both dealing with what is considered weird for the supposedly normal world and yet we have to balance an entirely different society at the same time. And you're right. It is getting worse."
He's seen it in several ways, watched the way tempers were rising and others were getting upset by the way things were going.
Again she gets a chuckle from him. "Well, sorry but they're going to have to start scheduling these things. Tell them your doctor said so," he teases, even if he worries. He's sworn he'd never sire another, and he hopes to stay true to his word.
Relief shows on his face, even as he tries to hide it. "Thank you. I really appreciate it. Knowing anyone can walk in just because I own the place is nervewracking and not resorting to using humans to take care of that. If I had a friend, sure, but none of this servitor bullshit I hear about."
She's funny and cute and doing work most shouldn't have to deal with, and he can't help but to be open with her about how he feels about things.
Piper grinned as he laughed. She appreciated that he saw the humor in the situation because she was honestly the same way. "It goes to show, you can't escape the shit show of life, magical powers or not."
Her grin grew wider. "Can you write that on a note so I can throw it in their faces next time? Though I sometimes question if many of them can read." Maybe she was serious or maybe she just wanted to see if she could make him laugh for the third time. He had a nice laugh.
"No, honestly - thank you, for this," she said motioning to her side and the few viles she still held in her hand. "Creating wards for your place of business is the least I can do." Piper made a face at the thought of servitors and shook her head. "I get that."
Piper took a moment to evaluate how her body felt, she was at the same time exhausted and yet filled with just enough adrenaline to keep her going for another few hours. And she was famished.
"I don't suppose there are any restaurants or diners still open at this hour, are there?"
When was the last time she'd eaten? She couldn't remember. Likely earlier that morning.
"Life is always going to be a pain," he agrees, shaking his head ruefully. It's true though and they both live in worlds that make that clear.
"Oh. I'll put it on a prescription pad. You can give one to everyone not listening and they can come talk to me." Which is maybe not the best idea, but also amusing to him.
He smiles warmly at that. "All good then. I am really just glad to be able to help. I know it's not everyone in the community but I'm glad so many do try and do better. For everyone."
Making sure everything is secure, he gives her a look. "I may know a place. Mind some company?"
Maybe it's not the best idea but it's not often he has a chance to spend time with someone that understands all sides of things and who doesn't already know the rest of his life.
"In a world full of things always changing for years to come, I think that is the one consistency we can count on," she agreed with a grin. And maybe, if she kept in touch with him, she could count on this.
Piper tilted her head, considering his question though she really didn't need to think about it. "I don't mind the company at all."
She wanted to know a little more about this handsome vampire doctor who just patched her up and gave her a little bit of blood in case things went to hell again. She was fascinated by him and also grateful.
"Let me change real quick and we can go. I don't know much about small towns but I'm sure they frown upon half-dressed women coming in like they do in a big city. Or maybe it's the lingering blood they'll have a problem with."
"Not at all comforting and yet..." He shrugs even as he works on carefully packing up things. Including putting all the clothes he's used into a paper bag that he can later throw in the fire. Showing just how careful he is going to be with her blood.
"Perfect. I can drive, if you want. I mean, maybe you shouldn't be driving until tomorrow. Just to give your system time to replenish," he says, glad though she accepted his offer. He's always finding new and interesting people in his new world but she tops the list by far.
"Ooooh, I suspect Arturo would insist on both feeding you and helping you if you did. As it is, he'll only insist on feeding you," he admits. "Blood he might sadly be kind of used to around here. The town gets its share of weirdness."
She watches how careful he is at packing up the clothing and is grateful that he would show that same respect for the items that have her blood on them. She hands over the balled-up tank top with her blood. "I don't know if you'll get anywhere further with that, but... any bit of information will help."
Piper's mouth curls up and she nods. "That sounds good," she stands from the hotel bed, anticipating the pain again but sighs in relief when it doesn't come. "One second." And with that, she walks over to her suitcase, opens it up, and pulls out a top. After a few minutes in the bathroom after quickly cleaning up, she walks back out and slips on a pair of boots.
It was late and she was going to be with Kyle, so the chances of running into anything paranormal were genuinely a tossup. Still, habits like having on shoes she could fight in were hard to break even for a night.
"Good to know," she says with an amused grin, putting a few bills into her back pocket. "I'm ready when you are. What kind of weirdness is this town known for? I mean, other than it's alien lore."
Did she have any idea that aliens were in fact real? No. But would she be surprised to ever find out that they were? Also no.
"By the way, how much do I owe you for the house visit," she asks, now that the pain has subsided, thinking a little clearer.
"Thank you," he says, carefully putting it away as well. Despite his nature, he shows no desire of hunger in those moments, just carefully ensuring that everything is taken care of.
He gets everything taken care of, knowing he'll store it when he gets home in the safe he'd gotten for all the things alien and now supernatural he deals with.
He laughs at that. Then he considers her for a moment, knowing she's trusted him with a lot and he could do the same.
"Not so much lore, but most don't know that either," he admits. "Which is most of the weirdness," he adds. "I think that's why a lot of supernatural steer clear. Or at least keep silent. Though that could be because my mom's the sheriff."
With his bag in hand, he moves to open the door.
"Buy me a Shatner Shake and we'll call it even,' he offers with a grin.
"No, honestly, thank you," she says with a shake of her head. "I would be in far worse shape if you hadn't been here or if I hadn't stopped through."
Piper steps in closer when he admits that the alien lore wasn't exactly lore and blinks. "You know, not the most surprising thing to find out but also equally good to know," she says with a tilt of her head and grabbed her room key.
"I'm sure I will have a bunch of questions for you at another time about this but the only one I can think of right now is - I suppose they're not the stereotypical grey man then?"
She wasn't sure little grey men would blend in very easily, even in a town like this.
"Are you sure," she asks with a grin, it hardly seemed enough even with the ruins she would place on his practices. Piper stepped in closer and brought down the protection ruin as they left then raised it again once the door was shut.
He pauses a moment and smiles warmly. "I'm glad I could help.
Though he laughs at that. "Not that I can say any are still around," he admits, lying smoothly. "But then who knows."
Likelihood is, there's a fifty fifty she might run into one at the Crashdown but no guarantee.
"They were not. Looked like you and me from the pictures I've seen of those we identified." It's easy to talk the truth and not all the truth. "Though one did have amazingly big gorgeous eyes, if that helps," he teases.
"I'm sure. Next time it might change but how else can I start my secondary business."
He blinks, looking at her. "Is it weird I can kind of feel that?"
She tilts her head and hums. "Wouldn't even be the least bit surprised if there were. Demons, vampires, the Loch Ness monster, magic, crazy past lives... why not alive and well aliens?"
"And if they have big gorgeous eyes, all the better," she laughs with a nod.
Piper grins. "That's fair and would expect nothing less," she agrees. "I remember my business days."
She takes a moment to look around her before looking at Kyle. "Maybe for some but the one vampire that I know well has always been able to sense magic and any runes my cousin and I put on things. But, he is much older so, I'm not sure if your line or if age has anything to do with it. It's a good thing though that you can feel it - in case you come across magic or a witch who doesn't play nice."
The fascinating and annoying thing was, neither Adonis nor David was affected by one or two powers either. She still wasn't sure why that was but she didn't think too hard about it back then.
"If they are, they're smarter than some and don't poke their heads up. You know, like Nessie and all those Bigfeets letting themselves be caught in blurry pictures," he teases with a grin. He thinks about the fact they might run into one at the diner and that secret definitely amuses him.
He nods at that, glad to know it.
"I never had much time with my sire. He wasn't exactly truly the nurturing type. More the controlling and screwing with me type and it took a lot of work to break the ties between us," he admits, not caring if that's things he should keep to himself. He doesn't get to talk about them often and yet figures she can handle it where others can't.
"Oddly I've never senses magic here before. No, that's not true. Not outside of the reservation where I go and help out sometimes when they need a doctor but that's a different kind of magic, I think."
"Nessie does it because she's bored and enjoys both frightening and encouraging the locals and tourists," Piper says offhandedly with a laugh. She really should make a point to get back to Scotland sometime in the future and say hello but she wasn't sure she was ready for that yet. "That said, it is smart. There really are a bunch of weirdos in this world and who knows what they would do if they were told aliens were alive and well. Or, at least, at one point in time, were alive and well."
She tilts her head, listening to him as he speaks and nods. "That's unfortunate but I get the feeling it's more normal than you may think," she says and considers for a moment. "David, my boyfriend at the time who was killed along with my cousin, said that he didn't even know his sire. He was turned one night and that was it. Frankly, neither is great."
After a pause, Piper continues. "If you ever want to speak to another vampire about... anything, I can put you in contact with Adonis who David sired. He's a pain in the ass but he has decent knowledge, I guess," she says with a smile. "He's actually the one who knew someone who knew about you and why I came here with your name."
She hums, considering that. "Hm, that's interesting," she says after a moment. There was usually at least one witch no matter where she ended up at night and had to wonder if Roswell was the same or if, as Kyle alluded to, they stay away. Was it intentional or was something urging other magic users to turn away?
Not that she had felt that urge, to turn around and leave, but that didn't mean much. "It would be a different kind of magic and it could play into why there isn't any other magic around. I haven't lived around a reservation so I couldn't say."

She nodded. "Before... well, just before in my life, that inherent danger wouldn't have been a great concern." She wasn't sure how much she should share with the attractive vampire doctor but he did come at a moment's notice to help her out. Which was, she knew, his profession but all the same.

Elijah has died once, and all of his died with him. Now Kyle is the only one left.

It's mostly just me these days but I do see others here." Aliens and vampires and now immortals, oh my.
no subject
It won't take long."
no subject
If you're okay with that."
no subject

She's funny and cute and doing work most shouldn't have to deal with, and he can't help but to be open with her about how he feels about things.
no subject
Likely earlier that morning.
no subject
Maybe it's not the best idea but it's not often he has a chance to spend time with someone that understands all sides of things and who doesn't already know the rest of his life.
no subject
Piper tilted her head, considering his question though she really didn't need to think about it. "I don't mind the company at all."
She wanted to know a little more about this handsome vampire doctor who just patched her up and gave her a little bit of blood in case things went to hell again. She was fascinated by him and also grateful.
"Let me change real quick and we can go. I don't know much about small towns but I'm sure they frown upon half-dressed women coming in like they do in a big city. Or maybe it's the lingering blood they'll have a problem with."
no subject
The town gets its share of weirdness."
no subject
Also no.
"By the way, how much do I owe you for the house visit," she asks, now that the pain has subsided, thinking a little clearer.
no subject
He gets everything taken care of, knowing he'll store it when he gets home in the safe he'd gotten for all the things alien and now supernatural he deals with.
He laughs at that. Then he considers her for a moment, knowing she's trusted him with a lot and he could do the same.
"Not so much lore, but most don't know that either," he admits. "Which is most of the weirdness," he adds. "I think that's why a lot of supernatural steer clear. Or at least keep silent. Though that could be because my mom's the sheriff."
With his bag in hand, he moves to open the door.
"Buy me a Shatner Shake and we'll call it even,' he offers with a grin.
no subject
Piper steps in closer when he admits that the alien lore wasn't exactly lore and blinks. "You know, not the most surprising thing to find out but also equally good to know," she says with a tilt of her head and grabbed her room key.
"I'm sure I will have a bunch of questions for you at another time about this but the only one I can think of right now is - I suppose they're not the stereotypical grey man then?"
She wasn't sure little grey men would blend in very easily, even in a town like this.
"Are you sure," she asks with a grin, it hardly seemed enough even with the ruins she would place on his practices. Piper stepped in closer and brought down the protection ruin as they left then raised it again once the door was shut.
no subject
Though he laughs at that. "Not that I can say any are still around," he admits, lying smoothly. "But then who knows."
Likelihood is, there's a fifty fifty she might run into one at the Crashdown but no guarantee.
"They were not. Looked like you and me from the pictures I've seen of those we identified." It's easy to talk the truth and not all the truth. "Though one did have amazingly big gorgeous eyes, if that helps," he teases.
"I'm sure. Next time it might change but how else can I start my secondary business."
He blinks, looking at her. "Is it weird I can kind of feel that?"
no subject
She still wasn't sure why that was but she didn't think too hard about it back then.
no subject
He nods at that, glad to know it.
"I never had much time with my sire. He wasn't exactly truly the nurturing type. More the controlling and screwing with me type and it took a lot of work to break the ties between us," he admits, not caring if that's things he should keep to himself. He doesn't get to talk about them often and yet figures she can handle it where others can't.
"Oddly I've never senses magic here before. No, that's not true. Not outside of the reservation where I go and help out sometimes when they need a doctor but that's a different kind of magic, I think."
no subject
